定冠詞的用法

1. 雙方都知道的人或物。

Pass me the book.

2. 特指的或上文已提的過的人或物。

The boy with glasses is Jim.

I have a book. The book is very interesting.

3. 表示世界上獨一無二的事物。

The sun gives us light and heat.

4. 用在序數詞，形容詞最高級前以及對兩個人或事物進行比較時起特指作用的比較級前。

The second lesson is the most difficult in Book.

She is the taller of the two girls.

5. 用在姓氏的復數前表示一家人或夫婦二人。

The Smith are watching TV.

6. 用于江河，海洋，山脈，群島，沙漠等專有名詞前或由普通名詞構成的專有名詞前。

the Great Wall;the Yellow River

7. 與某些形容詞連用表示一類人

the rich;the young

8. 用在表示方位或樂器名稱前的名詞之前。

The sun rises in the east.

He likes playing the piano.

9. 用在固定詞組中。

in the daytime;at the age of;in the open air;at the same time;in the end;on the other hand等。

特指雙熟悉，上文已提及;世上只唯一，序數最高級;某些專有名，習語及樂器。
